The government decided what goods and services were produced, how they were produced, and who received them. The Soviet Union was a planned economy, which means that the government controlled all aspects of the economy. The official languages of the Soviet Union were Russian and the native languages of each of the republics. The capital of the Soviet Union was Moscow, which was also the capital of the Russian Federation. The largest republics were Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan. The Soviet Union was divided into 15 republics, each with its own government and constitution. The Soviet Union was governed by a single political party, the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU), which was dedicated to establishing a communist society. The Bolshevik Party, led by Vladimir Lenin, took control of the government and established the world’s first socialist state. It was created as a result of the socialist revolution in Russia in 1917. The Soviet Union was officially known as the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). It was the largest country in the world by land area, covering approximately one-sixth of the Earth’s total landmass. The Soviet Union was a federal socialist state that existed from 1922 to 1991 in Eastern Europe and Northern Asia, stretching from the Baltic Sea to the Pacific Ocean. The tribe she came from was terrible, and the way they treated her was the worst. I had nothing to root for, especially in the heroine’s case. And any hope of actual character development.Ģ. Which is then mentioned with such regularity (literally every other page, it felt like), that it completely smothered the rest of the story. Lucius barely has the arrow removed from his butt cheek before his “rod” takes over, stiffening every time he glances her way. No sooner than heroine and hero take one look at each other, but their loins start a-flaming. That just comes with the territory with this sort of novel, and it can even be fun to read.ġ. I’m not going to fault it for the cheesy sex scenes and the purple prose, because look at the cover. But unfortunately the book took a turn for the worse very quickly. On his way to the outpost, he’s attacked by a group of the tribe, including our heroine, Rhiannon, who shoots an arrow in his ass. The Roman’s brother, Lucius, is haunted by his ghost, and goes north to discover what really happened. It begins with a tribe of Brigantes in Roman Britain, under the direction of a Druid, sacrificing a Roman commander at Vindolandia. It was even entertaining in its trashy fashion. To clarify, while I thought this novel was kinda bad, it wasn’t terrible. Because sometimes you can judge a book by its cover…. The bricks surrounding me may be tumbling down one by one, but I’m not sold yet, which means for the first time in his life, Carter’s the one begging.įor my time, my trust, for a single chance. Sure, he may be pretty, but he’s also a walking, talking reminder for you to wrap it before you tap it.īut then I start letting my guard down, and he starts showing me pieces of himself I had no intention of seeing. I have the solution to all my sexual frustrations in a drawer at home, and it’s far less complicated than Carter Beckett. His only problem? I have no intention of falling for his shi-um, charm. He’s had everything served to him on a silver platter, including endless strings of women, and apparently, I’m up next. He’s arrogant, self-centered, and the man doesn’t seem to know what a filter is, let alone how to use one. Carter Beckett is the NHL’s resident bad boy, top player both on the ice and in the bedroom, and quite possibly the sexiest man to ever grace my field of vision. And then using these painted papers, which I cut and tear and then glue down onto illustration board, I create the artwork.Īmong some of my favourite artists are Paul Klee (1879 to 1940), with his colourful, dreamlike paintings and Pieter Brueghel (1525 to 1569), who painted peasants and landscapes of central Europe that remind me of where I grew up in Germany. I paint thin, translucent tissue paper with acrylics to create my ‘palette’ of colours and textures. I make my collage illustrations using my own hand-painted tissue papers. This is a universal concern that children have: Will I grow up? Will I be able to function as an adult? I too can unfold my wings (my talent) and fly into the world. But over time I have come to believe many children can identify with the helpless, small, insignificant caterpillar, and they rejoice when it turns into a beautiful butterfly. Well, for a long time, I did not understand why it was so popular. Why do you think The Very Hungry Caterpillar has been so very successful? |
